Preparing your interior for painting
What we ask of you
- Remove paintings or pictures from your walls — we'd never paint over them, but we don't want to misplace them.
- Collect any knickknacks along tables, mantels and shelves.
- Empty any closets we'll be painting.
- Make sure pets are secured during the project.
- Take down any child or pet gates before our team arrives.
How Palacios prepares
- Move furniture to the center of the room and cover it with plastic.
- Remove and reinstall all drapery.
- Use fresh plastic every time.
- Remove and re-place all switch and outlet plates.
- Perform general repairs if noted in the estimate (taping, sheetrock, sanding).
- Texturize when requested.
- Fill all nail holes and cracks.
- Caulk cracks along doorjambs, baseboards and ceiling crowns.
- Scuff, sand and clean all wood before painting.
- Remove wallpaper.
Exterior
Preparing your exterior for painting
What we ask of you
- Turn off all sprinklers during your project time.
- Remove any outer wall hangings and plants.
- Secure and clean up after pets.
How Palacios prepares
- Power-wash all painted surfaces to remove sand, dirt and mildew (some by hand).
- Hand-scrape to remove loose paint.
- Prime bare and new wood to help it accept the new paint.
- Caulk windows, entrances and major wood joints to reduce airflow — and your cooling bill — when noted in the estimate.
