Deck & Fence Staining in Knoxville & East Tennessee

Protect and richen outdoor wood against the elements.

Between humid summers, sudden afternoon storms, and the strong Tennessee sun, outdoor wood here takes a beating. Left unsealed, a deck or fence turns gray, splinters, and starts to cup and crack within a few seasons. Palacios Painting has been protecting outdoor wood for Knoxville homeowners since 2005, and our deck and fence staining in Knoxville, TN brings back the color while sealing the wood against the weather. From a backyard deck in Farragut to a privacy fence in Powell or a pergola in Maryville, we prep, clean, and stain it right so it lasts.

Deck & Fence Staining

What's included

  • Pressure washing and full cleaning of decks, fences, pergolas, railings, gates, posts, and stair treads
  • Stripping and sanding of failing old stain or sealer where the wood won't take a fresh coat over it
  • Spot repairs to popped nails, loose boards, and protruding screws before any stain goes down
  • Brush, roller, or sprayer-and-back-brush application of penetrating stain or sealer, depending on the wood
  • Coating the often-missed spots: board ends, rail undersides, lattice, and between fence pickets
  • UV-resistant, water-repellent finish chosen for your wood type and the look you want (transparent to solid)
  • Cleanup of overspray, drips, and debris, plus a final walkthrough with you before we call it done

How it works

Our deck & fence staining process

We use quality exterior wood stains and sealers from trusted lines including Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, and PPG, matched to your project — penetrating oil or water-based formulas with UV blockers and water repellents built in. Opacity is your call: transparent and semi-transparent stains let the grain show while adding protection, while semi-solid and solid stains give more color and hide weathering on older wood. The finish only lasts as long as the prep underneath it, which is why we don't cut corners on cleaning and drying before the first coat goes on.

On-site evaluation and estimate

We come out, inspect the wood, and check moisture, age, and the condition of any existing finish. We'll tell you honestly whether the surface needs a strip-and-sand or just a clean-and-coat, then give you a free written estimate and recommend a stain type and opacity.

Deep clean and surface prep

We pressure wash to lift dirt, mildew, pollen, and graying surface fibers, and apply a wood cleaner or brightener where it helps the stain absorb evenly. Failing old coatings get stripped or sanded so the new finish bonds instead of peeling.

Dry-out and repairs

Wood has to be dry before it will accept stain, so we let it cure after washing — typically a day or two depending on weather. While it dries we reset popped fasteners, secure loose boards, and flag anything that needs the homeowner's attention.

Stain and seal application

We apply the stain or sealer working with the grain, back-brushing to push the product into the wood rather than letting it sit on top. Vertical fence boards, horizontal deck boards, and railings each get the technique that gives the most even, durable result.

Inspection and walkthrough

Once everything has set, we walk the project with you, touch up any thin or missed areas, clear our gear, and leave your yard clean. We'll also explain how to care for the finish so you get the most years out of it.
